Pasos para la configuracion dial-up en Windows 98.

Step 1: Verify that Dial-Up Networking is installed.

Go to Control Panel and double-click on Add/Remove Programs icon. Select the Windows Setup tab, click on the Communications option and press Details… Make sure that the Dial-up Networking option is selected. If it is, continue to step 2. If it is not, select it and click OK. Windows will attempt to install the needed drivers, so make sure you’ve got your Windows installation disks or CD! Wait for your PC to re-start and continue to step 2.

Step 2: Verify that the Dia-up adapter and TCP/IP Protocol are installed.

Press the Start Button, select Settings, then Control Panel. Double click on the Network icon and make sure that the configuration tab is selected. Client for Microsoft Networks, Dial Up Adapter and TCP/IP should be present. If they are, skip this section and continue on Step 3.

To add Client for Microsoft Networks, click the “Add” button, double click “Client”, look for “Microsoft” and select “Client for Microsoft Networks”.

To add Dial-Up Adapter, press “Add”, double click “Adapter”, scroll down the list until you find “Microsoft”. Select the “Dial-Up Adapter” and click “OK”.

If you need to install “TCP/IP” press “Add”, double click “Protocol”, select “Microsoft”, then “TCP/IP” and press “OK”.

Now your Network dialog box should contain only “Client for Microsoft Networks”, “Dial-Up Adapter” and “TCP/IP”. Select the “adapter”, click on “Properties”, “Bindings”, and make sure that the “TCP/IP” box is selected. Got to Step 3.

Step 3: Configure your TCP/IP Protocol for Dynamic IP Addressing.

Now that the driver is installed, you need to configure it so it will work with Windows. Go to “Control Panel” and double click “Network” icon.

Click on “TCP/IP Protocol” and press “Properties”. You should get the TCP/IP Properties box.

There are six sections in this dialog box. We will work them in order. In each case, you may click on the title tab to get a picture of the dialog box with the correct options selected.

a) IP Address

Selected “obtain an IP Address automatically”.

b) WINS Configuration

Select “use DHCP for WINS Resolution”.

c) Gateways

On this tab write at “New gateway” 63.74.55.1 and press “Add”.

d) Bindings

By default, “Client for Microsoft Network” is checked. Leave it alone.

e) Advance

No changes needed.

f) DNS Configuration

This is probably what has being giving you the most trouble. Select “Enable DNS”. In the “Host” box enter “My computer”, and in “Domain” box enter “taino.net”.

Now, in the “DNS Server Search Order” write the following nunbers in the exact order, pressing “Add” after each one.

63.74.55.3 Add 63.74.55.4 Add

In the “Domain Suffix Search Order” write the following extensions in the exact order, pressing “Add” after each one.

( .com .net .edu .gov .org .mil )

When you’re finished setting these options, press “OK”. Then press “OK” in the “Network” dialog box. Windows will ask you to “reboot”. Press “Yes”.

Step 4: Set Up the Connection Icon

Open “My Computer” from the desktop and double click “Dial-Up Networking” icon. Double click “Make New Connection”. This will walk you through the “New Connection Wizard”.

Type in “Taino.net” or whatever name you want to call the icon you’re about to create. Your modem (which should have been configured when you installed Windows) should be shown in the “Select a modem” area. Press “Configure”. In the “General” section, CRANK up your modem speed to as fast as you think it will go. The maximum speed is 115200. DO NOT SELECT “only connect at this speed. This will let your modem adjust as the connection needs.

In the “Connection” section, press “Port Settings” icon. If “FIFO” is checked, UNCHECKED it and press “OK”. Click the “Advance” icon at the “Connection Section”. The following options must be checked: “use error control”, “compress data”, “Use flow control with Hardware (RTS/CTS)”. If you cannot check these options, don’t worry. Your modem probably does not support them. These options will not affect your connection adversely. Press “OK”.

Click on “Next>” in the “Make New Connection Wizard”. Enter 753-7720 in the phone number. You do not need to include an area code if it is a local call. Press “Finish” and your icon will be created. If you are dailling fron Caguas, make sure to use 653-7720

Step 5: Setting the Dial-Up Properties

Select your newly created connection icon, press the right mouse button and select “Properties”.

Press “Server Type” to get the dialog box. Open the “Type of Dial-up Server” drop down menu and select “PPP: Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Internet”. In “Advance options”, check “Log on to network” and “Enable software compression”. Check only “TCP/IP” in “Allowed network protocols”.

Press “TCP/IP Settings” button and check “Server assigned IP Address”. Check “Specify name server address” and enter at Primary DNS: 63.74.55.3 and at Secondary DNS: 63.74.55.4

“Use IP header compression” and “Use default gateway on remote network” must by marked.

Press “OK” on the remaining dialog boxes and you’re almost ready to dial and surf the WWW.

Step 6: Configure Dial-Up Networking to automatically redial a busy number

From the “Dial-Up Networking” folder, select “Connections” on the menu and then “Settings” and then “Options”. From there you can select the number of times you would like your Dial-Up session to attempt connection.

Step 7: Dialing in and getting connected

Double click on the connection icon you just created. You will get the “Connect to” dialog. Enter your “user name” and “password” in small caps.

Press the “Connect” button and your modem should start dailing. After a few rings, your provider’s host machine should answer. Once you dial in, a “pop up” window will show you the login status until it shows the connected message.

Step 8: Configuring your E-mail

Open your Internet Mail Icon. Go to Tools,then Accounts. Select the Mail tab and press Add, then press Mail. You will get several new screens, follow then options go to Server and fill the blanks according as follows:

Your Name --- Display name: Juan del Pueblo --- Press Next

Internet E-mail Address --- Select “I already have an e-mail address”

At E-mail address: write your e-mail (youremail@taino.net). If you have a domain, write (youremail@yourdomain.com). Press Next.

E-mail Server Names --- Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or http) server: write..... mail.taino.net If you have a domain write..... mail.yourdomain.com

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server write........ (the same s above)

Internet Mail Logon --- Account name: (youremail)

Password --- Write your password if you do not want to re-enter it every time you check your e-mail. Select “Remember password”. Press Next

Press “Finish”

Go again to “Tools”

Select “Accounts”

Press on the “Mail” tab

Select you e-mail account and press “Properties”

Select the “Connection” tab. Make sure that “Always connect to this account using” is selected and that your dial-up is selected in the drop down menu. Press “OK” an then “Close”.

Your E-mail is already setup. You can now use it.
